Yale Day of Service at the Bowne House
Yale graduates gathered at the museum on Saturday, May
10th, 2014, for the Yale Day of Service. Yale Day of Service
is a national day of volunteer work in communities around
the country; 2014 is the sixth year of the program. This
year, we hosted 16 Yalies; more than twice the number
of participants in 2013. Participants included alumni
of the Divinity and Law Schools, among others.
It was a beautiful day; the weather cooperated and the
volunteers got right to work on inside assignments as
well as outside tasks in the garden and in the adjacent
park. Those inside selected among a variety of projects
including the following; studying our collection of antique
bibles, reviewing historic documents scanned in our database,
and reviewing and organizing files of family documents.
Those working outside mulched and raked, preparing garden
beds for summer.
A highlight of the day was a visit by NYC Councilman
Peter Koo, who posed with us for this group photograph.
Everyone had a good time and we will look forward to
hosting them again in 2015.
