Doll Making Workshop with the Bowne House Historical Society

Price: $20 per person

What is Included: Pre-made cloth doll bodies, yarn for hair, and material for making simple clothing for a Black doll are all included in the fee.

What to Bring: Registrants are asked to bring their own scissors, needles and thread.


Bowne House Historical Society will feature Queens’ textile artist and master quilter Thadine Wormly leading a workshop on the creation of a traditional, 19th-century Black doll.

During the session, workshop participants will make a facsimile of a rare, cloth doll in the Bowne House collection. The doll is currently being conserved before inclusion in a forthcoming museum exhibition on the Abolitionist Movement and the Underground Railroad.
