BOWNE HOUSE DIGITAL COLLECTIONS
See the "Bowne Family Papers of Flushing, L.I.” online here!
The growing digital collections of the Bowne House Archives are now publicly available on demand from PastPerfect Online, a fully searchable online museum collections database. The Archives has just published the predominantly Colonial-era Bowne Family Papers of Flushing, Long Island, which contain a great number of our oldest and most historic materials. In the coming weeks, we will be adding additional items from our companion collections, including the Parsons and Bowne Family Papers, which span the period from 1776 to 1945.
The Bowne Family Papers document the social, business, and religious activities of the Bowne House residents and their predominantly Quaker circle of acquaintance, from the New Netherland period through the American Revolution and into the Early American era. These original and irreplaceable records include personal and Quaker correspondence, early land deeds and indentures, and 17th- and 18th-century records of the Society of Friends. Visitors on the PastPerfect Online platform can browse, search by People or by Keywords, download images, share records with others, send comments or queries to the Archives, and view descriptions and annotated transcriptions of selected documents that might otherwise be difficult for people today to read or understand. The archivist and research team will be summarizing and transcribing additional documents as part of an ongoing project.
