OHNY Weekend with Bowne House Historical Society:
Sunday, October 18th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm
Entry is FREE
What To Expect:
Bowne House is offering Self-Guided Tours of the historic home, including three public period rooms and the garden. Museum Educators will be available to provide historical background and answer questions. The permanent collection on view includes historic furniture, collection artifacts, and copies of archival documents.
Plus, enjoy a Pop-Up Exhibit featuring four recently conserved embroidered samplers from the Bowne House Collection. These delicate samplers are beautiful examples of early American needlecraft, likely dating to the early 19th century. They feature hand-stitched letters, numbers, and decorative patterns. Samplers of this kind were often sewn by girls and young women as part of their education in both literacy and handicraft.
How To:
Museum entry begins at 12:00pm. Last entry is 3:45pm. No pre-registration is required. Simply arrive at the front entrance and check-in at the designated table. Due to limited space inside the historic period rooms, visitors will be allowed staggered entry based on check-in time.
